I bought the HP USB-C to RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter G2 (part number 4Z527AA) without any confirmation of A.) the chipset, or B.) the compatibility on Linux. Great news on both accounts, the adapter uses a Realtek RTL8153 chipset, and had immediate plug n’ play functionality on my Ubuntu box. This isn’t groundbreaking in any sense (wow, an ethernet adapter uses a common chipset which works on Ubuntu like 99% of things these days), but my own pre-purchase research didn’t confirm either of these things, so hoping Google can pick this up and help any other future purchasers.
